Anandpur Sahib

Spent the afternoon at the Khalsa Heritage Museum (aka Virasat-e-Khalsa) in Anandpur Sahib. Quite enjoyable. The exterior building rises dramatically from the landscape and blends religious symbolism with innovative architecture. The audio tour was extensive and perfectly timed with the galleries. I was most impressed with the attention to detail given to each of the exhibitions. The use of local artistic practices – phulkari and dhurries as ceiling and wall coverings, embroidered panels depicting the life of Guru Nanak, enormous painted murals highlighting aspects of Punjabi life and culture – all were masterfully done. Bravo!

I am particularly grateful to the staff of the museum, especially Tajwinder Singh Sidhu, Colonel Darshan Singh Grewal, and Rudia Pratap Singh Sethi, who went out of their way to make my visit a pleasant one. Many thanks again.
